Track Of The Day THE LIONS CONSTELLATION
Following on from the feedback-drenched wall of sounds and dreamlike atmospheres of pillars bands such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride and My Bloody Valentine, the Spanish Shoegaze and Psychedelic trio, formed in 2008, The Lions Constellation made a name for themselves, above all abroad, with the 2009 debut album, “Flashing Light”, the consolidating “Under The Skin” EP in 2011 and electrifying live performances at major festivals like Primavera Sound, among others, and sharing stages with renowned international acts ( Interpol, Wire, The Horrors, The Wedding Present, Moon Duo, etc.).
The Barcelona group, made up of brothers Graham Lions (bass) and RJ (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards and percussion), alongside P. Arthur (drums, percussion and backing vocals), surprisingly return, after a long hiatus, with their upcoming sophomore album, “New Moon Rising”, keen to embrace the new decade, showcasing seamlessly a distinctive knack in mastering compelling moments of both raw power and delicate beauty.

The Lions Constellation have honed their catchy and straightforward yet intricate guitar-driven Noise Pop approach, peppered with Shoegazing and Dream-Pop proclivities, through a further texturally flowing, lush amalgamation of melody and distortion, as it is as hazily sweet as piercingly abrasive.
After the dreamier, jangly, yet anxious in the last part, first excerpt, “If you”, the new brisker and urgent Teenage Fanclub/Dinosaur Jr-esque single, “Human Skills”, is lyric-wise a break-up song about letting go, rather than adding more heartache to the mix.
A bouncy rhythm section pulses along with noisy, buzzy guitar riffs, bubbling with invigorating fuzz-laden intensity and pull-and-release vigour, amid screechy, contorted standstills, to rise together with gloomy, anxious vocals, layered with bitter, angry responses, into a final unleashing tidal wave of chugging distortion.
The Lions Constellation’s single “Human Skills” is out now on all the major streaming platforms. The band’s upcoming sophomore album, “New Moon Rising”, will be released on the 21st of November via Shelflife Records (US), Make Me Happy Records (Greece), Too Good To Be True (France), on limited vinyl and CD, and Psychocandy Records (Indonesia) on cassette.
Keep up with The Lions Constellation:
