In a period in which, for the most part, the releases are wearily repeated themselves, among nefarious flurries of AI-generated music, without any remarkable exciting peaks, the off-kilter, unpredictable explorations to the outer edges of Post-punk and Cold Wave from the Leipzig-based outfit Mantarochen are always more than welcome.
Following last February’s second album, “In The Badgers Cave,” via Eleven Records, the East German trio return with the new single “Busy Bee”, a song about working yourself to death.
Cool, angular, minimal, sneakingly intriguing the track meanders across obsessively writhing spirals of sharp, jagged guitar riffs, stabbed by metronomic, tight drum beats alongside relentless wiggly and moody bass pulses, gloomily covered by sad, glowing keyboard melodies, which uncoil like a mesmerizing snake charmer, to weave haunting and alluring vibes over wickedly playful female vocals, taunting with an aloof flair.
Keep up with Mantarochen:
