WL//WH Track Of Day: SOOTHE “Overthinking”

WL//WH Track Of Day  SOOTHE

Following the warmly received debut single “Porcelain,” the Leuven, Belgium-based Shoegaze four-piece have dropped over the weekend their sophomore effort, “Overthinking.”

Started as the personal and creative outlet for the gifted, self-taught teen bedroom singer-songwriter Benina Hu, whose handful of rough demos took new shapes and hues when kindred musicians and Shoegaze aficionados Haiko Van Dooren (Guitar), Bram Nijs (Bass & Backing Vocals), and Bob Moons (Drums & Synth) joined the project in 2022.

The band painstakingly shapes reflective and evocative textural Slowdive-esque soundscapes, immersive and chilling in equal measures, streaked by subtle rippling tensions, beautifully nestled in an immaculate and floating balance between sad imaginings and ethereal daydreams, creating an earnest mood that is both stirring and soothing in its embrace.

The lyrics suggest that a person should take the time to shift perspective on a troubling matter rather than getting pulled down into the billowing vortex of shadowy, racing thoughts.

A bustling and pulsing stir of a loose-limbed, serpentine, rubbery bass line, alongside ceaselessly stumbling drums, fuels the roaming and swirling chiseling of effect-filled guitar filaments, gently chiming around vibrant, anxious vocals, soaring through achingly keen spirals of transfixing wistful depth.

Keep up with Soothe:
