Track Of The Day CINÉMATIQUE INVERSE
“Déstabilisons nous (un peu)” is the new single from the elusive musician from Northern Brittany, Boris Völt, better known as Mode In Gliany, among other projects (Irène De Milo, Oknho, Premier Mouvement), under his Cinématique Inverse alias, with a suggestive sampler of his elegant, cinematic, and pathos-filled analog Cold Synth Wave sound.
Lyric-wise, “Déstabilisons nous (un peu)” suggests making a relationship off-kilter by trying new combinations of light and shadow, through a lens of care and hard work.
Crisp, muffled, taut drum patterns, acidic bass tones, and pulsing, anxious shivering synths stir an urgent, tightly wound crescendo in unison with fearfully elated spoken words, rapidly streaming, amidst an obsessive, wobbly slow down, under a sweeping drone-y layering of simmering, glowing, and dramatic synthetic sheets, carefully exploring the unknown.
On the flip, the more atmospheric and esoteric “Minimouchka” about Boris’ last Cat, unfurls suffused, soft percussions and tightly throbbing sequences, augmented with the use of deep, round organic bass pulses and glistening, wistful guitar melodies, to swell and trot alongside dark, dreamy male vocals, becoming frightened and shocked by the sight of ‘a furball filled with feathers.’
