Frau Aicon & Das Wunder are singer Sanna Eicken and synthetist Daniel Wunder (formerly one half of minimal electro acts File Not Found and We. with Martin Pscherer), a Synthpop/Electro project from Germany formed in 2020, who drop a video for “Clouds,” the latest and third single since their debut EP “Hatten” released last February 2024.
About someone who is trying to hide from their problems, “Clouds” unrolls a warbly looping bass line that undulates across dry stacked marching beats, stirring a thin buzzing mist above which an emotive array of icy stabs, glows, and jagged bleeping and zipping synth tones, swirl around angsty wistful vocals, longing to feel free, above the clouds, tonight.
A black and white horizon, filmed from the window of an accelerating airplane, sets the backdrop for Frau Aicon & Das Wunder as they perform the retro-futuristic dance number “Clouds.” Once the take-off levels out at a peak altitude, the bird’s-eye view brings forth a sense, like the tiny trees and farmlands below, of difficulties being small and far away.
