PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Oslo, Norway lo-fi slowcore /jangle /noise-pop group led by guitarist and vocalist Christian Dam, The Age of Colored Lizards “Out of Sight” 2nd single from upcoming album [Sotron Records]
Second single in a row that explores immersive, quietly intense, slow-paced cyclic progressions Spaceman 3/Spiritualized style, built over minimal reverberating guitars, liquid synths, droning textures, and vocal overlays. In “Out of Sight”, tinny, repetitive, then light skipping, programmed beats join with humming, oscillating bass loops and opaque, sad billowing synth figures, blanketed by subtly squeaky, aching sheets of sustained guitar distortion, to surround, with a deceptively serene trance, depressed, vibrant male vocals, losing color and then disappearing like a ghost to explore drifting, aimless without the light.
- Central Coast, Australian indie rock 4-piece band The Moving Stills “Benefit” single
Back last year, after a long hiatus, the Aussie foursome dropped a catchy, dynamically scintillating and engaging jangly Indie Rock tune that bounces with raw passion and sincere feelings, combining energetic strumming, crisp, shimmering spangles and dazzling synth spirals with lively rhythms and angsty, sad male vocals, achingly soaring with painful emotion amidst a slew of nostalgic high/low back-ups to explore an agony of conflicting feelings.
- Philadelphia shoegaze dream pop trio Slow Television “Dead On Arrival” single
A nostalgic, stripped-back, and balanced Dream-Pop tune, rife with sheer emotional sensitivity, revolves around reverberating melancholic guitar lines, stirred by steady drum patterns and humming bass pulses, to capture the outlines of stirring fleeting emotions, anxiously ringing around sad, vulnerable, haloed male vocals, shifting into echoing layers to express feeling lost, with a heavy heart, unto giving love another try.
