PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Stockholm, Sweden 4-piece jangly /indie-pop band Salt Lake Alley “What They “Forgot” To Tell You” 2nd single from the upcoming album [shelflife records]

Stockholm‘s ‘orthodox’ indie pop torchbearers drop a lowkey second single from their forthcoming album. A bright, bittersweet song about being lured into being a commodity with a presentation of money, benefits, and grand views, buzzes urgently through skittering drums and lithe warm bass pulses, spangled with edgy and vibrant razzle-dazzle swirls of sparkling wistful guitar melodies atop sarcastic anxious vocals, aching in a sea of regret.

  • Berlin-based indie rock /shoegaze band, Dusk Saffron “Orphic” from the single “A Little Death”

Berlin-based 3-piece drops the definitive versions of the two lead tracks from their first demo, defined by an atmospheric, dreamy sound that blends the early 90s shoegaze lineage with the effects-filled, emotive crystalline 6-string inlays à la DIIV or Wild Nothing. “Orphic” glides through an enveloping introspective distillation of wandering clean, glistening guitar patterns, intricately intertwined with a warm, snaking bassline and skittering drums, nervously wavering with bittersweet obsession, to echo airy, anxious, wistful vocals, stuck in a confused haze, urgently releasing pain and frustration.

  • Indonesian noise /indie pop duo Bourgeois – “Do I Really Have To Understand You?” from “Mattias” single [disanorak]

Another highly addictive dose of IndiePop from the dynamic Jakarta-based DIY imprint Disanorak, this time with an archival 2-tracker from around 9/10 years ago by the enigmatic duo Bourgeois with a crystalline crossbreed of British/Swedish retro indie pop sounds, such as irresistibly fresh, refined and timeless, which may have been written the other day. An anxious yet upbeat swaying wash of sparkly guitar riffs, elastic bass grooves and bouncy off-tempo drum beats, is enriched by delicious, playful and straightforward vocal interweavings, ceaselessly airy and elusive, to create infectious bright and melancholic melodies that seamlessly jump in and stick in your head.
