PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • TREMOLO: 2025 Playlist

Once again, WL//WH is thrilled to support Seattle‘s  Tremolo Fest 2025, three nights of electrifying music with incredible bands on September 25-27. Tickets are already on pre-sale, just follow this link.

  • Thessaloniki, Greece psych /power-pop /60s garage rock six-piece The Sences “Emilia” 2-track 7″ single [Rogue Records]

Even though my never-forgotten Retro 60s Psych-Garage phase is long gone, I never miss the opportunity to investigate the best weekly releases. The young six-piece combo from Thessalonki display once again, after a brilliant debut album, a deep heartfelt fondness for the vintage 60s garage sound, drawn up with equal prowess and imagination, characterized by a distinctive care to detail in the arrangements, where every element is in the right place, crafting a scratchy and electrifying rock ‘n’ roll laced with fuzz; the vocals scrape and soothe, the drums urgently pound and shuffle in a blaze of vigorous raw buzzy guitar riffs and Farfisa organ that swirls and shivers seamlessly, wrapped in sparkling psychedelic flavors, rife with Nazz and The Electric Prunes tones, fully managing to refresh the 60s magic in an ever compelling and captivating way.

  • South Australia-based Dream Pop /Shoegaze one-man band of songwriter, guitarist, and producer Dave Thomas, aka Hey Calamity “The Walls Have Ears” single

The prolific, changeable shoegaze-adjacent Aussie one-man project with a transformative, sweeping, and stirringly heartfelt song, as we are used to, which trembles under crispy, sparkling, distorted guitar chords and whirling poignant keyboard glows to waver in ethereal shivering mists and immersive droning swathes around deeply emotional, powerful vocals coming face to face with the wounds of trauma and abandonment.

  • Dortmund, Germany Shoegaze duo Dennis Mielke and Oskar Middelhauve, aka Telephonist “Gegen die Wand” title track of the upcoming debut EP

We missed at the start of the month the deeply atmospheric and melancholic first endeavour from the newcomer German Shoegaze two-piece Telephonist. The Slowdive-esque “Against the Wall” sways doleful and surreal on a relentless hypnotic downtempo pace, soaked in a haunted, reverb-laced hazy sea of echoing sad guitar melodies, layered with soaring achingly emotional radiant swirls, softly cradling gently drifting wistful vocals, stuck by a decision that can’t be changed.
