Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – JANUARY #04-23
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Brazilian dream pop /shoegaze band Terraplana “Conversas” single on Balaclava Records
Brazilian shoegazing foursome craft a stirring and enthralling balance between ethereal vocal bittersweetness and reverb-strewn abrasive guitar styling, that unfurls over a murky bed of scattered drum beats and rumbling basslines, whilst scathing distorted 6-string drifts laced with painful twinkling echoes instill heartbreaking moods round dual male/female vocal heartache, impatiently stewing in numb seas of regret.
- New Mexico based indie rock /psych-pop solo project of singer-songwriter Matt Ray, AKA Silver Movie “Alex Metal” single
A whimsical entrancing blend of minimalist Martin Rev-like drum machine pattern and retro John Lennon-esque vibes, “Alex Metal” unfurls over tinny time-ticking percussive loops and warm pinpoint bass pulses, whilst nostalgic reedy keyboard flows rise ceremoniously below sparkling crystalline keys, to immerse prominent resigned vocal melancholy in warped robotic moods.
- Melbourne-based shoegaze /dream pop band Dream Room “Skin” single.
Dreamy emotional vibes with a mystical breath from the Aussie duo evoke immersive comfort through warm nostalgic spirals of twinkling guitar melodies and wistful bright synth washes underpinned by syncopated broken rhythms and hearty murmuring bass palpitations, whilst airy swathes of vocal longings blur space between two loving souls, crossing boundaries to find something real.
