Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – JUNE #23-22

PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Hattiesburg, Mississippi dark psych /dream-gaze band NIGHDRATOR “The Poet” from the debut “Nighdrator” EP

In their debut 3-track EP, Mississippi‘s band conjures a timeless portal between the past and present delving into post-apocalyptic and esoteric sonic realms, crammed with shadowy and spacey late 60s psychedelia, dreamy and hazily distorted 90s shoegaze and thick sludgy grooves. “The Poet” triggers heavy, slackened drum beats to drive a droning overflow of reeling organ-like keyboard flurries, dense bass pulses, icily sharp guitar textures and eerie ethereal flute whirls, to exude oppressive, obscure, lysergic auras brimming with pent-up emotional tension, slowly swelling and seeping around a liturgical spoken-word narration interspersed with haunting celestial cries of a melancholic haze, to deliver a dissociative philosophical poem lost in an esoteric blur of shifting and shedding moods.

  • Portland, OR-based ambient /post-punk /psychedelic /shoegaze band Lost Echoes “Running Out Of Time” new single on Velouria Recordz

Navigate in scintillating rippling shoegaze waters making their way through hypnotic lysergic swells and subtly agitated murky undertones. Steady pounding drum beats drive dire, distorted, restless textures laced with dense buzzing basslines, to weave excruciating, glistening and pain-filled guitar strains, echoing desolately over angsty longings, hanging in a dreary balance between a desperate stumbling wasteland and surreal lost time.

  • Washington, DC indie rock /dream pop band led by main songwriter-vocalist Jay Nemeyer, COLOR PALETTE “River” from the single “River / Lazy Lovers”

The dream-pop combo from Washington DC has a distinctive quality for writing upbeat and heartfelt, at times folksy, others noisy, indie-pop tunes, which we often need, pervaded by bittersweet nostalgia and filled with captivating melodies built on sparkling guitars and endearing vocal harmonies. Steady punchy drum beats drive shimmering rich tangles of strummed guitar chords, punctuated by wistful stacks of twinkling keys, wavering over angsty light layered male-female vocals breathing love and longing into romantic lyrical poetry of fateful dreams.
