WL//WH Video of the Day: WAVEPOOL “Tiny Cowboy” (Official Video)

Video of the Day  Wavepool

Wavepool is a five-piece newcomer outfit from Rouen, France, influenced by bands such as Cindy Lee, Duster, and Homeshake, who merge laidback Dream-Pop vibes and hazy Shoegaze textures with the Mac DeMarco/Tame Impala most reflective undertones, stirred by captivating balmy vocalisations, in their debut single, “Tiny Cowboy”, via Howlin Banana Records, accompanied by an Official Video edited by Maryan Sauvé.

‘Tiny cowboy’ is an introspective ride that ultimately turns into a quiet celebration of self-discovery through a lens of loneliness and wanting to connect with others.

A languid, immersive, contemplative misty aura, spreads on soft plodding percussions and patient bass throbs, revived by vibrant layers of swirling strobing keyboards and softly scratching, fuzzed-out guitar brushstrokes, that swell and ring helplessly over wistful, dreamy vocals, longing for friendship, with gloomy back-ups, whilst perpetually cruising on sun-dappled waves of blurry bittersweet nostalgia.

The video for Tiny Cowboy is made up of anonymous vacation footage filmed in the Maldives, found on an old cassette camera bought at a flea market. The song becomes the soundtrack to a stolen dream, an inner journey through someone else’s forgotten images.

Awe-inspiring tropical seaside formations are made blurry and tinted pink to bring forth the colorful dream-like quality of the soundtrack. Aerial shots, sunsets, and schools of fish come together, with the use of transformative overlays, to give a front row perception of the beautiful panoramas. The most fascinating symbolism comes at the end when it appears as if someone wearing black is standing alone, but then the camera zooms in, and there is a woman in white walking nearby.
