Young hopes are growing in Italy recently, after the amazing and surprising Truemantic full-lenghth, here is the debut album from Dull Company Myself, the moniker of Matteo Ferrante from Cisterna di Latina, Central Italy, titled “To Load the Feeling of a Trembling Whisper” via Lady Sometimes Records.
Member, guitarist and songwriter of the drone / post-rock collective Stille Dämmerung, his solo venture is instead completely rooted in the sound of the 80’s, after a self-released limited 4-track cassette in 2016 consisted predominantly of deeply emotional classic post-punk, he gradually added new intriguing dreampop, synthwave and synthpop nuances.
Pretty curious the fact, and I’d like to discuss this issue further in an interview, that some of the recent Italian darkwave and post-punk acts, I’m just thinking about Havah, VRCVS, have a seeming opposite hardcore, emo and post-rock background.
In an overall brilliant debut album where is impossible find a weak or dull moment, the most immediate and addictive is right the titled-track “To Load the Feeling of a Trembling Whisper”, an hypnotic, danceable reverb-soaked meld ’80s-inspired synth pop, propelled by a beautifully throbbing bass line woven together with mesmerizing layers of synth arpeggios and shimmering reverbed guitars against the emotionally detached vocals, to craft an inventive and alluring blend of deep thrills and dim gloom.
Dig the whole album, you won’t be regret, highly recommended.
Keep up with Dull Company Myself :
