WL//WH Review: THIS IS THE BRIDGE “Vanishing Point” LP [TONN RECORDINGS]

WL//WH Review  THIS IS THE BRIDGE

The label’s Bandcamp page states,

“Every This Is The Bridge release on TONN Recordings brings us exquisite minimal synth delivered with poignancy and precision.”

Active since 2015, This Is The Bridge (UK) has already published a very long catalogue of releases with extra amazing music constantly. TONN RECORDINGS (Belfast, N. Ireland) is often the record house that hosts his music (as well as that of other synth pioneers), and this year, a little while ago, on March 10, his new “Vanishing Point” LP came to light with 18 brand new tracks.

It’s no secret that I’ve been following this valuable boutique record label, and this particular musician for years, and I was honestly happy about the new album on this particular “shop”. Minimal synth music in a coldwave style, and with some blatantly hidden synthpunk elements along the 18 new tracks (and songs) that simply…define the new sound of the past of this very special (and beloved) music. This Is The Bridge has a unique ability to highlight the pulse of the urban landscape effortlessly. He creates music that resonates throughout the city, from its heart to its mechanical parts and the mind of its existence. This sound is universal among the concrete cities, and he does it with the specific aim of encouraging us to dance to the rhythm of our surroundings, blending minimal synth melodies with engaging rhythms.

What’s exciting is that he records something new every time, featuring different ‘episodes’ and fresh situations that still feel very familiar. He continuously evolves his work, which is why I consider him a significant pioneer in this genre of music. In my ears, the album highlights a desire for space and time within urban environments. It features darker moments that express anger, as well as a lingering romantic anxiety reminiscent of the new wave era. The melodies are beautifully crafted, and the impressive integration of live instruments gives the “Vanishing Point” LP a unique distinction, both in comparison to his earlier work and within the broader genre.

This album is one that the musicians of the cult will share among themselves, curious about what new elements can be found in this genre and what will help to keep it alive. It’s one of those important albums, that is. Expect high-quality production and recording throughout the album. While the 18 tracks may seem like a lot, I’ve come to realize (after listening nonstop for a second time) that each one is essential, removing even one would leave the work incomplete or lacking. Prepare yourself for an exceptional experience featuring minimal synths and a vocalist who embodies the cold logic typically associated with this genre (though not robotic). Everything has been executed with moderation, which is why the 18 tracks will never feel monotonous or tiring. Let’s say that the first 2 tracks are like the entrance (not the introduction) to the album, you go through it, and after that, the whole work got me completely involved.

I will not say anything else; I believe you understand my point regarding this “Vanishing Point” LP by This Is The Bridge through TONN Recordings. Check it out, and listen loud (without headphones, please)!!!

Keep up with This Is The Bridge:
