WL//WH Premiere: PALM GHOSTS’ Dispatch from the Front Lines of the Culture War “Content Provider”

WL//WH Premiere Palm Ghosts

In anticipation of the October 10th release of the new album, “Content Providers”, via Sweet Cheetah Records, Steadfast Records, and Poptek Records, Palm Ghosts, the Philadelphia-bred multifaceted Post-punk trio born in 2014 and raised in Nashville, unravel a video for the third excerpt and opening track, Content Provider, WL//WH is pleased to premiere.

“The house band for the apocalypse—stitching shadowy guitars, cinematic pop, and indie grit into widescreen soundtracks for a world on fire”, made up of Joseph Lekkas (Lead Vocals, Bass), Benjamin Douglas (Guitar, Vocals), and Walt Epting (Drums, Percussion), will deliver a

a thematic concept album addressing the struggles of artists in the modern music industry, particularly the demands of being a “content provider” for algorithms and social media. It’s the sound of Gang of Four rewiring their amps in a lightning strike, a Psychedelic Furs vocal delivery and Joy Division steering into the abyss, with melodies that read like love letters from a city burning at the edges.

Telling the story of an older artist who struggles with navigating the new world, the threesome explores dystopian off-kilter art-rock leanings in “Content Provider”, bobbling along a relentless stuttering driving bed of wobbly, rattling percussions and buzzing low ends, to simmer and charge behind an interplay of angsty, aloof vocals, surrounded by intervals of hypnotic, anxious swirling synth strings, menacing droning textures, achingly echoing guitar wails, and a desolate horn-like swell that climaxes into a jarring jazz-strewn finale.

A DIY computer-generated illustrated visual pairing puts a distortive black and white filter over people and accelerates the speed of their actions to sync with the cultural message of “Content Provider”. The images are placed inside a desktop computer while an overlay of squiggly lines dissects shape and dimension to bring to mind an internet stream of mania.

Palm Ghosts upcoming album,Content Providers, will be released on October 10th through Sweet Cheetah RecordsSteadfast Records, and Poptek Records. The limited edition black/translucent pink vinyl format is on pre-order at this link.
