Weaving together sophisticated 80s-strewn strains of Darkwave, Cold Wave, and Post-punk, the chilly, haunting romantic Darkness meticulously crafted by the Canadian duo is as seamless, profoundly tempting and intriguing, as intensely emotional and achingly melancholic. The hypnotic drum programming pulses relentlessly, the bass sullenly broods, while blistering guitars bleed with bleak and piercing sorrowful agony over the powerful howls and desperate falls of Robert Smith-esque vocals, examining the instilled religious belief of God’s forgiveness in heaven for horrifying acts committed on Earth. Definitely one of the most captivating comebacks of the year.
