PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- TREMOLO: 2025 Playlist
Once again, WL//WH is thrilled to support Seattle‘s Tremolo Fest 2025, three nights of electrifying music with incredible bands on September 25-27. Tickets are already on pre-sale, just follow this link.
- Asbury Park, New Jersey post-punk /shoegaze /indie rock trio Prettier Now “Slow Blink” single
The three-piece from New Jersey creates an atmospheric, cinematic, heavily textured fusion of shoegaze and dream pop in the new single “Slow Blink”. Moonlight, shadows, and lost dreams surround wistful, emotionally distorted guitar riffs that echo, ripple, and twang over stumbling drum beats, building a glazed, swirling liminal aura to shroud tragic ghostly vocals, yearning to be saved from macabre wishes.
- Ottawa, Canada indie /dream pop duo Soft Top Intrepid “Pause” single
Hazy and nostalgic atmospheric dreampop from the Ottawa duo, back, after almost two years, with a bittersweet and immersive daydream of obsessive reverb-heavy sparkling guitar melodies and blurry droning synths, swaying over low steady midtempo rhythms, while gentle, drowsy layered vocals, as the lyrics say, anxiously fall in and out of connection before realizing “All this time I’ve spent waiting.”
- West Java, Indonesia dream pop /jangly guitar indie pop band The Wellington “Membiru” from the mini-album “Well in Town (Demos, B-sides and Rarities)”
The highly regarded Indonesian unit churns out a collection of Demos, B-sides, and Rarities, which should not be misleading, showcasing the band’s distinctive, swirling, and breezy late 80s/early 90s-inflected indie pop sound, enhanced with a meticulous use of a crystalline, atmospheric sonic palette, in full swing. Lush jangly arpeggios, swaying shimmery strums, warm, snaky bass and cozy percussions weave soft and dreamy textures, stirring in shadowplay, that gel together with smooth, sinuous, vocal harmonies, and deftly orchestrated flowing and compelling melodies, seamlessly permeated by bittersweet tones and tinges of faded melancholy. The wistful glistening guitar melodies and the atmospheric moody vocals of the sublime closing “Membiru”, a song about “turning blue”, beautifully close out a collection to be enjoyed in its entirety.
