PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Athens, Greece indie rock /shoegaze /dream pop DIY project Get Violet “Fluorescence” from the collection EP “Herbarium pg.1-6” EP

One of the couple of unreleased songs from the mainly singles collection is a delicious shoegaze-tinted dream-pop with colourful, radiant vocals gliding over a gentle pulsing rush of plucking bright acoustic guitar melodies, laced with feathery shimmering and swelling sheets of reverb, to layer dreamy piercing cries, with dull sadness and long airy trails of hope, expressing how one can feel lost and depressed when the physical body becomes too tired to keep up with the spiritual one. Considered by the Athenian unit as a beginning, judging by “Fluorescence”, it could not have been born under the best auspices.
- Leeds, UK Alt /Psych-Pop /Shoegaze band Leechers “The Here And Now” single

Implementing elements from ’90s Shoegaze and Indie Rock the West Yorkshire band’s new single drives steady punchy drums to fuel an obsessive, fuzzy flow of slightly abrasive guitar riffs, layered with sparse, chilly liquid jets of synths, to sonorously ring and later stridently distort, in a stringent circle around dreamy, mesmeric vocals, trying to stay awake in the here and now.
- London-based indie /psych-pop project of 14 Iced Bears’ frontman Robert Sekula “Sweetest Star” from the upcoming first-ever solo 7″ EP “Asyd Mouse” [Precious Recordings of London]

Not new to solo endeavours, not forgotten was the bright vibrant “Pamela” from a couple of years ago, the new single from the former frontman of the cult seminal late ’80s/early ’90s group 14 Iced Bears, harks back to the most introspective and redolent atmospheres with sinuously 60s psychedelic flair, where bare shimmery guitar riffs gently reverberate in lithe and cocooning bittersweet melodies to sneakily and inexorably draw the listener into the intimacy of heartfelt vocals, lifted by alluring celestial back-ups, encouraging another to grow.
