WL//WH Weekly Post-Punk / Darkwave / Dark Synth Tips

• Seattle, WA electronic /new wave /post-punk solo project WISTERIA “Charon’s obol” from the 2-track single “Enshrined / Charon’s obol”
  

Although initially confusing due to the presence of an L.A. act of the same name, the debut from Seattle‘s ‘reclusive sound witch’, peppered with a healthy dose of Kantian nihilism, deploys two gloomy, disturbing and mesmerising slices of minimal post-punk, to which, if we really want to, we could only argue a certain basic homogeneity, introduced beautifully by an obsessively murmuring, pulsing, menacing bassline along with crisp steady beats, punctuated and lacerated by distorted and excruciating shrilling feedback frequencies to cloak manic, tormented vocals in a magnetic poetic lyrical offering of emotional tragedy and self-eviscerating tears.

• Norwegian New Wave | Post-punk | Indie rock project from Oslo, TÅSEN TEA PARTY “Corner Of Trust” from the 2-track single of the same name.
  

The Norwegian project clearly inspired by Joy Division continues with a hectic pace in nearly daily releases, hard for a relaxed Latin like me to keep up with. While constantly retaining a dusky, contemplative and greyish hued style, it happens that sometimes more than others he succeeds, amidst obsessive sharp and painful guitar wails, sorely deep atmospheric bass pulsations and cold ethereal gusts of keyboard hunch, to fully capture the introverted, reflective, as well as desolate and romantically sorrowful essence of the beloved Mancunians, whilst the scratchy, haunted baritone vocals drop ominous omens of destruction and dread.

• Spanish post-punk /shoegaze /darkwave solo bedroom project OSCURIDAD ROMÁNTICO “Dysfunctional Passion” single                                                                                                                                                             

Oscuridad Romántico is another one-man band, this time from Spain, not as focused and prolific as the Norwegian one above, but which wanders with fine results between post-punk, darkwave, shoegaze and indie rock. At times, as in this case, very keen to draw all the eerie, angry, and aggressive vibes of the post-punk forebears, to compel hypnotic, throbbing bassline obsessions to drive insatiable desire through syncopated, tight snares, abrasive distorted guitar riffs and whining squealing frequencies, devilish celestial howls, and wicked chanting confessions to stir lost passion with brutal longings and alienating swirls of toxic dread.
