PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • PHILIPP OTTERBACH // @Swim, Basel / Switzerland , May, 03 2025

Krefeld-born, Berlin-based artist Philipp Otterbach deliver an untamed free-flowing assortment of electro, psychedelic techno, tribal and trance, to take the listener into a mind-bending and transformative voyage through time and space.

  • Brooklyn-via-Alabama acid /house /psych /cosmic disco veteran producer and Wonder Stories boss, Aimes “Wah La (Thomass Jackson Remix)” from “Fals” EP [Natural Selections]

Electrifying, sultry, groove-laden remix by the Argentinian-born ace producer Thomass Jackson, through a vibrant coalesce of heart-pumping beats, crisp percussive inserts, relentless humming bass pulses and paranoia-inducing call & response echoing vocal clips, brimming with a bracing and infectious feral energy that compels the rhythmic grit to burstle throughout.

  • Chicago-based lo-fi /EBM /techno /acid /broken beat /leftfield /dark electro L.A.‘s DJ-producer Michael Padgett, aka Ole Mic Odd “Nebula” from “No Hope, No Fear” EP [KRI]

Imbued in the gloomy spirit of the EP, through its tight, mechanical lashing rhythms, scattered murky kicks, and menacing and uneasy droning textures, “Nebula” unfolds with dramatic intensity, as icy cinematic string melodies and gritty robotic vocal clips intertwine to create a foreboding sense of relentless tension and danger.

  • Koh Chang, Thailand based, Geneva-born downtempo /tribal acid /slow trance /psych /ethnic /electronic producer Jerome Doude, aka The Dude Of Stratosphear – “Vikaar (विकार)” from “Vikaar (विकार)” EP

In a busy week of releases for the Thai producer, the title track is a mesmeric and entrancing downtempo excursion into heart-thumping tribal percussive bounces, psychedelic shimmers, gurgling bass grooves, and sinuous exotic invocations, swaying into a vibrant trippy daydream, intrigued by a sense of introspective exploration and ancestral healing.
