WL//WH Review ATHAMAY
On September 5th, the British electronic act ATHAMAY published their new and so-long-awaited full length album “The Crucifixion and the Resurrection” through Midian Studios, also including 3 remixes by names such as Klaus Devore, Ghosting, and Blue Ant. The band is constructing ‘monumental’ Electro/Darkwave/EBM/Industrial music, currently formed by Sean and Jo (All music & programming), and their new singer, Marlen Moysidou (Vocals and Lyrics), from the renowned DJ team Geisterwelt Nights.
Some 30 years ago, ATHAMAY were responsible for the dark club hits “Kiss The Whip” and “Falling”, which were included in their striking debut “Pleasure Of Sin” LP…a fetishistic work of art that never gets old. Now, they continue from where the alarm lights went on, with a new sound, a new voice, a new situation, and an incredible new album that, believe me, will set the dancefloors on fire even more.
September has started off well. I have an album in my hands that has been playing on repeat every day. With 12 tracks that hold nothing back, it feels as though the past has been dressed in new clothes, with fresh sounds and a new voice. It’s as if the classic EBM has emerged from the closet, brimming with self-confidence, and ready to shout, “We’re having a party now—get ready!”
“Running From The Dawn” is the album track #2, and to my surprise, I can hear a narration in Greek there…please pump up the volume.
While the album includes more ‘vagrant’ tracks, this is a solid starting point for exploring it. The transition from ‘simple attack’ to ‘gothic fetish’ occurs smoothly and with notable boldness. You will hear reflections that are ‘dangerous,’ harsh pieces, music from urban landscapes, music for dreaming, and music for dancing, after all. Literally, the entire album is inspired and absolutely rightly placed within its adventure. A big round of applause from me to Marlen for her contribution to the band, but also to Sean and Jo for the music and the impressive final result. If I told you one song was better than the other, would you believe me? So, please listen to this album loudly!
Keep up with ATHAMAY:
