Soft Skies Inc, the Alternative Dream-Pop recording project from twin writing team Ryan and Martin Rex (previously known as Lockgroove), based in Philadelphia, PA, rolls out the thrillingly busy and noisy new single “The Point”, produced by the brothers themselves with Chris McLaughlin (engineer) at DeepSpace Studios in Brooklyn, New York, which WL//WH is pleased to premiere.

Filled with hopeful nostalgia and controlled chaos, it’s the follow-up to shimmering last June’s single “Sin Some / Lose Some,” and showcases another side of the Soft Skies Inc sonic persona. Its suffocating nature, relaying a yearning, emotive energy where clarity gives way to disorientation and comfort turns to confusion, is purely by design, and reflected in the gripping artwork.

“The Point” swirls around a propulsive tension, echoing a classic alternative sound that calls back to a time when rock and roll bands experimented with seismic beats and sweeping electronic textures, and electronic artists leaned into a more primal and pointed rock and roll energy.

The song is about when something that once saved you starts to drown you instead,” says Ryan. “It’s about the beautiful kind of destruction you can’t seem to walk away from…The verse lyrics came together quickly, but the chorus took forever. I really wanted it to feel relatable, yet a little upside-down and disoriented.Ryan adds

An action packed, rambunctious roller coaster ride filled with stormy emotions, propelled by the popping and clattering punch of frantic hard-hitting drum patterns, that trot relentlessly alongside tense and moody, neworder-esque sonorous low end grooves, wrapped by darting glowing synth whirls, and flares of guitar distortion, washing over fired-up anxious vocals, achingly engaging in the pain and thrills of a devilish romantic adventure: “What’s the point of loving you? It’s tearing me apart.”
