PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Brazilian shoegaze /dream pop duo Ariel Void “Freefall” from the upcoming debut album, “Um Para Infinito”

The first single, from the Brazilian Shoegaze duo’s debut LP, strives to discover and experience what comes after grief and loss, through a wistfully reverberating sprawling of distorted guitar textures, droning and squeaking over hazy, openhearted female vocals, free falling into the dark unknown to discover and experience what comes next.

  • Ottawa, ON shoegaze /psychedelic band led by multi-instrumentalist and composer Peter McNestry, The Pink Elephants “Sun Rah OM Inferno” from “Mothers Of The Sun” EP

Ottawa music project is back after a very long hiatus with a new EP, in collaboration with Isaiah Mitchell (Earthless) and Sean Curran (The Stalwart Lovers), of desertic transcendental, mostly instrumental, psychedelia, missing the previous shoegaze leanings, to recall early The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels and stuff like that, rooted in slowness and repetition through a boundless circular resonance in search of transcendence towards cosmic horizons. The EP teeters between parts of atmospheric droning contemplation, that melts in boundless and reflective mind-expanding oscillations, and thicker, heavy swirling slo-waves of intense feedback and blistering acid leads, as in the most persuasive “Sun Rah OM Inferno”, radiating like molten sun rays, to evoke a vibrant, penetrating, timeless sense of mystery and healing.

  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia dream pop /shoegaze five-piece band Commemorate “Lights” single [La Munai Records]

Breezy and shimmery new single from the Kuala Lumpur unit that billows like a feather as dreamy, breathy female vocals reveal “I’ll keep the lights on,” whilst gliding amid a shimmering reflecting deep of insistent sparkling guitar melodies and a fizzing misty crescendo of riffs, to augment the mesmerizing melancholic aura, while achingly longing for a loved one to come home.
