PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Jakarta, Indonesian indie noise pop band, Vanishing Muffins – “Hit You With Snowball” from V/A “A polaroid for Christmas 2025” Christmas compilation for Gaza Soup Kitchen [“Memoria polaroid” – un blog alla radio]
The notable Italian Polaroid Blog has set up its usual juicy Christmas compilation, with tons of DIY pop bands to relish. All the proceeds will be donated to the Gaza Soup Kitchen. The motivation is double, don’t miss out!
- Madison, Wisconsin folk /jangle indie pop quintet Gentle Brontosaurus “Luxury Bones” first single from the third 2026 album, “Three Hares”
Some may remember Madison‘s band, with a couple of brilliant albums to their name, the last one about seven years ago, featuring a sun-kissed, catchy guitar sound that skirts between effervescent jangle-indie-twee pop harmonies and stirring folk nostalgia, reminiscent of Camera Oscura and Belle and Sebastian. Immediate, sweet, and jaunty, the single swings along midtempo rhythms with sparkling, crystalline guitars and flickering, searing licks, around grateful, bright female vocals, strained with slight angst, embracing a non-glamorous job with good benefits.
- California cosmic Americana guitarist and songwriter Alvin Piranhas (Beachwood Sparks, Fighter Jet, Farmer Dave & The Wizards of West), Benji Knight “Blue Belief” from the double A-single “Blue Belief b/w Spider In The Sun” (first song recorded at the Ventura sessions, featuring nearly all of Farmer Dave & the Wizards of the West, with most of Pacific Range and Gerard Love of Lightships, Teenage Fanclub) [Curation Records]
Wafting on sun-dappled West Coast scents, and soul-stirring tuneful lyricism, an extraordinarily mellow and heartfelt ballad from the experienced guitarist-DJ-composer and notable friends, radiates a cosmic breath that inebriates mind and heart with mesmerizing wanders of glistening arpeggiated guitar melodies, and earnest layered male vocal harmonies, singing about ‘the sunny blue belief in you’ whilst spraying out an emotional complexity through a distorted, brushed, slightly abrasive, coda. Absolutely sublime.
- Gangneung, South Korea shoegaze band trishé “Underwater” off debut single “Glare / Underwater” [Lilies in Water Records]
South Korean Shoegaze outfit debuts with a double A-side single that dips into a boundless guitar-laden sea overflowing with a heavy enveloping bulk of fuzz and distortion through a balanced harmonization of seething noise and emotive introspective melodies. We prefer precisely for the latter facet “Underwater”, where relentless drums flounder and stumble in thick, abrasive layers of dreamy droning feedback that slowly floats and spills outward into a turbulent, misty flow pierced with high-pitched, sibilant reverberations, to almost fully wash over throaty, radiating male vocals, echoing, mantra-like, in a swirling motion of sad yet hopeful emotional catharsis.
