Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – NOVEMBER /DECEMBER #48-23

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Sydney, Australia indie /psychedelic /grunge /shoegaze solo project Oca Pine “No Eye” single

A cold, blurry, equally isolated and soulful mashup of sound elements from psychedelia and shoegaze to dream-pop, and grunge, with intriguing groovy use of broken, echoing and shuffling rhythmic patterns, layered with rushing hazy distorted guitar textures, at times shimmering chords, to cover poignant, detached reverb-drenched vocal longing with clouded frequencies of alienation and shame.

  • Nagoya, Japan dreamy shoegaze pop band Mishca “Baskets” flexi disc single via Galaxy Train

Exquisitely melodic and sparkling sunkissed indie pop from Japan arouses nostalgic amorous longing that wafts and swells on a bubbly relaxed bed of strolling beats and sinuous rubbery warm bass pulses, whilst piercing Spring-like chiming guitar melodies, insistently wail and echo atop a male/female vocal interplay of heartfelt croons, high joyful cries, and angsty romantic broods into a soft and dreamy sunset of blissful moods.

  • Cambridge, MA/Portland, OR bicoastal lo-fi /indie /psych pop DIY music project fronted by Miranda Soileau-Pratt, aka The Spatulas “March Chant In April” from the upcoming cassette EP “March Chant” on Post Present Medium

Whilst rooted in PNW/K Records/twee lineage, the first foretaste from the upcoming cassette EP via the long-running PPM label by The Spatulas nods to art rock Siltbreeze’s harsh 6-string rumblings and bare minimalism, punctuated by a clicking hypnotic percussive pattern, unveils a rustic obsessive dance under the spotlight scraped by abrasive discordant twangs, scattered throughout, over slightly distorted vocal whines with intensifying scratching sways of attention-grabbing romantic drama.
