PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Berlin-based shoegaze /dream pop band Sweetspot “Hard To Please” debut single
The debut single by the newcomer trio from Berlin immerses us in whimsical, colourful auditory wonders of wholly Cocteau Twins-esque airy lightness, anchored by sonorous brooding bass lines alongside steady plodding drum beats awash in nervous, ghostly sparkling guitars, and effect-laden gossamer mists, to surround gentle, panicked female vocals, on a roller coaster ride of melancholy, anxiety, and fear for trying too hard to please a loved one.
- Athens, Greece-based US DIY lo-fi /indie rock /twee art-pop duo of Rob Beloved & Eleni Binge, aka Beloved Binge “Shadows of the Mountain” single from the upcoming album
The last of the two songs unveiled over the weekend, which ends the long journey toward the Athens, Greece-based duo’s full “Godwit” album is a stirring, intimate indie folk song that uses sober arrangements and organic instrumentation to infuse a veil of immediacy and mystique, whilst meandering between bittersweet, shiny arpeggios and vibrant surges of earnest, energetic strumming, to support heart-warming male, backed by female, vocals with warmth, gratefulness, and comfort after a loved one nearly falls into the abyss.
- Santiago, Chile indie rock /dream pop /shoegaze band Coloresantos “En la niebla” first single from the forthcoming second LP
Chilean band returns after an 8-year hiatus with an alluring and intense blend of shoegaze and dream pop sonics. “En la niebla” unrolls loose lively drum beats, and sonorous moody bass pulses that shuffle into shimmery rippling blankets of circling jangly melodies and wistful, heartfelt vocals, longing through the haze, awash with a gushing flow of opaque noisy distortion, riven by achingly emotional high ringing echoes.
