PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Melbourne, Australia noise pop /shoegaze /psychedelic rock band Cochlear Kill “Exits” single

Active since 2009, although with sparse releases over time, the Melbourne-based band led by Brisbane‘s multi-instrumentalist and pedal-freak Mot Bollox, edges around immersive, equal parts oneiric and noisy, popadelic shoegazing realms. When nothing matters anymore so you sadly let go, “Exits” stumbles upon swooshing lush spirals of piercing guitar distortion and soaring blinding swirls, intensified by sensitive, alienated vocal harmonies floating with emotive resonance strained by soul-stirring sorrow and pain.

  • St. Petersburg, FL surf /psych /shoegaze /dream-pop solo project of guitarist-songwriter Craig Pethe, aka The Cataract Pools “Stranger Than Fiction” single

Surrounded by swirling shivering synth pads injecting a mesmerizing psychedelic sheen, airy euphoric vocals, with slight tinges of angst, are muted by a vibrant and tortuous textured flow of murky droning disconnection, to remind us of the spark of light within us, waiting to be ignited by truth.

  • Detroit, Michigan Indie /Dream Pop duo Bluhm “Double Dream” single

Like a moody daydream, plodding percussions and warm bass pulses stir emotive crystalline guitar reverberations and fluid synth washes, to color the spectral ambience around lush and vibrant contemplative vocals exploring the conflict between the dreary melancholy and dreamy anticipation of being trapped in a relationship, while longing for the mystery on the other side. Sinuous aural magic.

We are proud to announce our partnership with eardrum buzz radio and Shore Dive Records in sponsoring #gimfest2 in Boom Leeds on 7th December. Get your tickets at this link.
