Weekly Shoegaze/ Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips #46

Picks Of The Week:

  • Australian psych-shoegaze 4-piece from Adelaide, THE HOWLING FOG “Pure Gold” from The Howling Fog’s debut CD/vinyl 12″ EP, “Drifting” on Clarity Records.

Adelaide‘s psych-gazers return with a sophomore EP permeated with their solid and poignant blend of droning, trippy psychedelia and sharp noisy guitar reverberations with a menacing edge, which is both atmospheric, vigorous, addictively melodic and deeply emotional.

  • Boulogne-sur-Mer, French lo-fi/indie/dream pop 5-piece fronted by Quentin Isidore aka Pastel Coast – “Kerry” from the debut album “Hovercraft”

Northern France dream-poppers Pastel Coast craft irresistible and elegant melodic and melancholic song structures through dreamy yet deep vocals, lithe solid drum beats, pulsating post-punkish basslines, swelling synths, sparkling reverb-infused jangly guitars and even alluring brass instruments, deftly conjuring up the sun-bleached dreaminess of Beach Fossils and Real Estate, the lo-fi jangle pop hazy wistfulness of Sarah Records, and the Factory Records and The Cure subtle emotional restlessness into an absolutely delicious and catching debut album.

  • Melbourne, Australia post-punk/dream-pop quartet VIM “Waiting” from the upcoming last EP

The new single from Melbourne‘s 4-piece VIM sparks lush excitement and mesmerizes with a blend of hauntingly beautiful chiming and shimmering guitar melodies, darkly rubbery sinuous bassline, and melancholic and ethereal vocal harmonies making for an arresting introduction to the band’s sadly last ever EP.
