PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • London-based shoegaze /dreampop solo project Rainsong “Seven Stars” single

The sunbeamy MBV-esque “Seven Stars” plunges into a mesmerizing, looping and plangent magma of iridescent, heavily distorted guitars, resonating and revolving around steady drum beats that thump under sharp rippling kaleidoscopic hues, encompassing in seething swirling spirals where crackling stratifications, soaring emotional shivers, and misty rarefactions layer with reverb-drenched vocals, radiating into an airy euphoric, faraway rapture toward elusive, surreal fringes.

  • Greek-born ethno /psych-pop /indie rock artist Corpus Perditum – “Lule e Egër” 2nd single from upcoming debut LP “Self Eroticism” [Nice Guys]

Compelling, expansive, and cinematic in scope, the new song by the Greek-born atmospheric, shiny psych-rock instrumental sound explorer winds smoothly over warming, pulsing bass grooves and slithery drums, inlaid with bright layers of glistening, nostalgic guitar riffs, subtly sizzling, lilting chords, and overlapping wistful high flourishes, laced with smooth, fluid keyboards, to bring forth contemplation, wanderlust, and heady travels.

  • Vienna, Austria shoegaze /dreamgaze /dream pop band Backwards Charm “I Feel Nothing” single

We featured the Austrian group back in 2020 during their second album release, but then we lost sight of them a bit, to be honest. Reduced to a duo, Backwards Charm still knows how to convey heartfelt sentiments with a striking guitar work. A stripped-down, emotionally ridden new song cloaked in intense, buried anxiety, pulsates perpetually on a sonorous, moody bass line and steady, bouncy percussions surrounded by lonesome guitar melodies that resonate in the ether with painful, high-pitched, sparkly reverberations, shivering hopelessly together with strained, whispery vocals, drawing emptiness, apathy, and callousness from the absence of bliss.
