PICKS OF THE WEEK:

The opening track from the forthcoming debut album by the new band of former The Field Mice co-founder and bassist Michael Hiscock is an uplifting charming folk tune about real life melancholy and joy, imbued with reflective acoustic lightness, sung by nostalgic heartfelt vocals and high haloes, that glide over a gentle airy flow of shimmering guitar strums, sparkling plucking chords, light tinny tambourine shakes and vibrant fluting motifs, spiraling in a cocoon of soul-stirring sentimentality.

  • Glasgow-based dream pop /indie folk artist of Indian heritage, Radhika “Future Me” debut single via God Vibrations Records

Continuing on the same captivating acoustic folk lightness, the upbeat debut of the young Glasgowian singer-songwriter reflects on being a responsible eco-global citizen to unfurl easy-going heartfelt vocals that sway over a bouncy ongoing pace of vibrant strummed guitars and warm bass pulses, coloured by wistful fluting ripples and bittersweet piano melodies, to bring forth comforting and immersive feelings of melancholy and hope.

  • Los Angeles-based 4-piece alternative rock /grunge /shoegaze band Bad Light “Portrait” new single

L.A. based four piece Bad Light states to play “loud music for quiet people” through a heady mix of distorted, reverb-heavy, noisy guitar sound with reflective atmospheric melancholy, bridging rumbling melodic echoes of grunge /shoegaze /alternative from the early ’90s/’00s. The new single “Portrait”, a song about romantic disconnection and mind games, triggers a rush of stumbling, hard-hitting drum beats and heavy throbbing bass lines, floating through wailing and anthemic fuzz-laden guitar riffs melting away in contemplative, sorrowful sparkling interludes, to soar and overlie emotional vocals, swaying between sad dreaminess and aching laments.
