PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Nashville, TN bedroom /alternative /shoegaze /indie rock band The Sewing Club “Wyatt” single

‘Bedroom Rock” foursome delve, since their outset in 2021, into dreamy and noisy edges of guitar indie rock from the late ’80s/mid-’90s, decked out by reverb-laced Shoegaze atmospherics and a riveting and intense vocal delivery. A song about not feeling secure about a loved one’s behaviour stirs gripping, emotive grungy riffs that sizzle and echo, to burst forth with fuzz-laden bulging distortion over floating soft bittersweet vocals, falling anxiously, overcome by a chaotic surge, into helpless cries for “Wyatt.”

  • Austin, TX surf /dream pop /shoegaze band fronted by Betsy Leidal, Allwax “Waves” single

The hardworking Austin group, every time I have a glimpse on their IG looks like they’re seamlessly playing live, delivers a nostalgic, sun-dazzled surf-gaze number wafting loosely over an immersive and cathartic ambience layered with wandering shimmers of chilly and obsessive, at times angsty, glistening guitar melodies along with flowing warm emotional vocals and cool celestial echoes, contemplating on the importance of thoughtful spiritual connection.

  • London-based Alternative Rock /Indie Rock /Shoegaze /Psychedelic Rock duo Monochromatic Visions “DID YOU FORGET SOMETHING?” single

ItaloGreek, London expat duo ride familiar dense hazy waves of The Jesus and Mary Chain feedback fringes, lead by crisp clapping metronomic beats charged by a chugging bass line, pound a thunderous wall of noise swelled by buzzing fuzzed-out mists over enduring dreamy sad vocals, asking “Did you forget something?”, through a lens of disconnection and need.
