Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – SEPTEMBER 2024 – #37-24

This Mid-September week we’ll be playing songs from the label Shore Dive Records, stuff we like and stuff from our partner https://www.whitelight-whiteheat.com/

As a reminder, don’t forget the Shore Dive Records‘ compilation “Music For Tami”, to raise funds for critical surgery for the Lamoreaux family. Musician and Somewherecold Records owner, Jason has been a longstanding huge part of our music community. All the proceeds of the album will be donated to help out.

Tune in:

First Saturday of the month at noon, 4pm and 8pm PST on EDBZ.
Every other Monday at 8pm UK time on Slack City.
Every Wednesday at 9pm UK time on Smile Radio

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Tokyo, Japan 4-piece ‘neo gazer’ band The Floatings “Lily(demo)” single

Emotive neo-gazers from Tokyo return with a demo song about loss and a long, light and dark healing process. High, slightly childish, vocals dig deep into an emotional well of intense feelings, swaying over vibrant blankets of shimmering strummed guitars, punctuated by plodding drumming, and layered with bursts of swirling, fuzzed-out expanses and excruciating high-pitched flourishes, to soar triumphantly then fall.

  • Bradford, UK dreampop /psych rock /shoegaze /indie rock 5-piece band Abandoned Buildings “Rabbit Holes” single from the upcoming new album ”Eroding Light”

A deft fusion of elements from Dreampop, Psychedelia and Indie Rock, the final single before the band’s debut LP, framed by a dazzling and swirling guitar work, is about the manipulation of our human nature by algorithms and the insanity that ensues, fueled by a dynamic backdrop of loose drums and a sinuously pulsing bassline, atop which woozy and anxious surreal auras hang suspended over striking emotive layers of sparkling, echoing guitar reflections, poignant piercing leads, and edgy keyboard riffs, to hopelessly surround angsty dreamy vocals and high whispery echoes with the unsettling polarization of rabbit hole deception.

  • Adelaide ambient /shoegaze /jangle /indie project of Caleb Carr, Border National “Memory Repository” debut 2-track single

Border National is yet another alias from the Aussie musician and composer Caleb Carr, but as long as he keeps writing such brilliant songs, it’s not a big deal, based on a build up of circular repetitive scintillating guitar loops with a trance-inducing effect, as usually does the English pop Shopfires as well. The title track is a heady guitar pop reverie bathed in introspective melancholy, that sways on a shimmering blanket of bittersweet six-string melodies that jangle endlessly in a mesmerizing trance somehow echoing intriguing exotic sheens, pierced with swirling edgy distorted flourishes, while unaffected, yet nostalgic vocals croon with moody emotional intensity.
