Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – September #36-21

PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Seville, Spanish indie rock /noise rock /dream pop /shoegaze project of Fran Lora, aka FLU FLU “Dead Inside” from the album “Shinefull” on Shore Dive Records

The Spanish shoegaze project from Seville, Flu Flu, lead by Fran Lora, invited different friends to contribute with vocals and lyrics over seven songs, apparently sewing ‘made to measure’ sonic textures according to each leaning, switching seamlessly from the magnetic guitar-driven grip on 90’s infused melody, noise and dynamic of the opening one-two (Moonsong), mesmeric reverb-drenched, MBV dazed-out realms (AEROFALL), swirling and dizzying synth-laden surreal rocking whimsicality (Echodrone), eerily hypnotic and alluring dangerous dark incantations (The Nancy Downs) and dream pop sprinkled with lysergic undertones (Analog Tears), to round off with a less funereal, more melancholic version of the Joy Division classic by fellow crooner Anton Sapristi. Haziness and brightness, harmony and distortion intersect and coalesce organically on a meticulously crafted canvas. Don’t let it slip away.

  • Allentown, PA indie rock/garage duo of guitarist-vocalists, Nicholas Gillespie and Serg Cereja, aka Laurel Canyon “Daddy’s Honey” (Single)

Third energetic and vibrant single for the stylish duo, if previously their strummed fresh garage sound mixed with 70s rock was mostly spiced with 60s pop harmonies, this time their distinctive jangly rock’n’roll groove is tainted with proto 90s noisy riffage and snorty punk attitude, in a tight whirlwind of bombastic drum beats, abrasive guitar riffs, squealing reverb quivers, and throbbing bass lines to convey caustic dual screams of angsty bliss into retro grungy moods of corrosive anti-corporate drive.

  • Fröseke, Sweden ambient /dream pop /indie /folk project of singer-songwriter Magnus Josefsson “The Map” new single on The Mirror Factory

First single from the upcoming album from Swedish musician Magnus Josefsson, infused by the spatial and weightless vibes of Durutti Column, sinuous bittersweet nostalgia vividly emerges through caressing shimmering kaleidoscopic refractions of serene guitar arpeggios, studded with sparkling emotional reverberations, amid gauzy humming keyboard swells, hearty walking bass palpitations, and light percussion, moseying melancholically through an introspective rippling mirror of resounding hope, shining new enveloping sensations of anticipation and desire onto the mystery of “The Map.”
