PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- New York-based lo-fi jangle indie pop project by Phil Sutton (Pale Lights, Cinema Red and Blue and once of Comet Gain), Love, Burns “Just for a While” from Love, Burns’ upcoming new 7-track mini-album “Blue” co-released by Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten (EU), Jigsaw Records and Calico Cat Records (US)
The first excerpt from the upcoming Mini-LP by Love, Burns will catch the ears of all lovers of the most refined and crystalline emotional-ridden jangly guitar pop, washed in enveloping Hammond-like shivering organ grooves, with Phil’s heartfelt vocals, never so streaked with a sullen romantic croon ala Lloyd Cole, layered with nostalgic echoes, to uplift with soul-stirring intentions, ‘give love a chance’ and ‘give it a little more time’. Are you ready to have your pop heart broken?
- Chicago, IL drone pop /psych-pop /slowcore /dream pop trio DESERT LIMINAL “Kid Detroit” from upcoming third full-length album “Black Ocean” via Whited Sepulchre Records
Chicago experimental pop trio’s first preview from the upcoming third LP is about a past tour experience when the two founding members Quillin and Logan were both devastated by grief and loss. Aching sentimental vocals coast sadly above a softly swaying ocean of hypnotic resonant snare beats, twinkling nostalgic piano melodies, fuzz-laden guitar textures and excruciating spindly reverberating flourishes, amid heartfelt lilting backups, wishing she could rewrite her life over again.
- Lancaster, Pennsylvania post-rock /shoegaze /indie rock solo project of Kody Stieve, aka Joyful Forfeit “No Better. No Worse.” the first single off the upcoming early 2025 LP via Neon Bloodbath Records
The first excerpt from the next EP with his distinctive electrifying fusion of Indie Rock, Post-Rock and Shoegaze. Equally noisy, ringing, and invigorating, certainly with no lack of heartfelt emotions, “No Better. No Worse.” scrapes and meanders through a vibrant nostalgic tapestry of crunchy riffs, echoing sparkling wistful melodies and high-pitched aching resonances, to glide out and soar loosely above sad yet hopeful vocals.
