Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – AUGUST 2024 – #33-24
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Chicago-based post-punk /Madchester /shoegaze /indie pop duo of indie artist Port Streets and house producer J Ben., Swooner “Humor Me” from the debut EP “Resolved”
Driven by their mutual love for the late 80s/early 90s indie guitar music sound, particularly British, the Chicago duo provides a rather fresh and distinctive flair, working with a painstaking knack on every facet of their nuanced sound, from electrifying guitars to vibrant rhythms, from rich textures to the use of Balearic-tinged electronics and entrancing vocal harmonies, to chisel an EP that seamlessly alternates introspective and carefree parts with strong melodic sensibilities, closing in style with the compelling skittering beats and trippy lysergic flavours of the Madchester-tinged “Humor Me”.
- Kalmar, Sweden lo-fi /noise pop /shoegaze /indie rock project of Jens Fransson, a former member of Sack Lunch (2017-2019), aka Trash Ratio “Hey Winner, What Gives” single
Trash Ratio is the buzzy and sizzling, as well as caressing and scratchy, fuzz-laden guitar pop-rock solo project of Jens Fransson from Sweden, permeated with hazy melancholic immediacy, and unmistakable nods both to the distorted textured shoegaze and the US noisy indie rock from the late ’80s/early ’90s. A fine second album at the very end of last year to his credit, definitively an act to follow.
- Chicago‘s shoegaze /indie-pop /dream-pop songwriter Loren Vanderbilt III (former member of Star Tropics), aka Humdrum “See Through You” from the upcoming album “Every Heaven” via Slumberland Records
