PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Sacramento, CA-based post-punk/dream pop/shoegaze band, Weathering “Blue Dress” (Depeche Mode cover) from the limited edition 7″ vinyl single “Chimera B/W Blue Dress” on Sunday Drive Records

A successful cover version while maintaining the essence of the original should be infused with diverse nuances, distinctive from the band’s own personal style; seem to know it damn well the Californian duo turning DM minor classic in a passionate dreamy ballad embellished with sparkling soulful guitar melodies and alluring soothing vocal longings, swept in melancholic bliss. With all due respect to the myths, barely the original touched me on such a deep emotional level.

  • Sydney, Australia ‘flower doom’ psychedelic 5-piece TURTLE SKULL “Apple Of Your Eye” from the upcoming sophomore album “Monoliths” a co-release by Kozmik Artifactz and Art As Catharsis
Sidney‘s psych combo approach the end of the month’s release of their sophomore album with, according to the band, its most poignant and emotional song that harbours their distinctive mesmerizing sonic alchemy of fuzzy and ethereal, groovy and hypnotic, haloed with lush atmospheric vocal harmonies that fade and fall in breathless heartfelt abandon, sending shivers down the spine.
  • Seattle, Wa. lo-fi/shoegaze/garage/indie-rock band led by brothers Erik and Evan Foster (the Boss Martians), DIRTY SIDEWALKS “Heard You Wanna Kill Me (Erik Blood Remix)” new single

Amidst shades of 90s UK indie and late 80s JAMC dreamy melodic quality, the new remixed single by Seattle rockers conjures up bittersweet melancholic nostalgia exuding by slightly abrasive hypnotic six-string strums and sparse wailing distorted leads, whilst soft whispered male vocals, left longing in lonely memories.
