Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – JULY #29-23

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Melbourne-based jangle pop /indie rock trio (members of Chook Race and Peach Time), The Small Intestines “Horse Riding” from the upcoming first album “Hide in Time” via Meritorio Records and Lost and Lonesome

First single for a new trio from Down Under, reminiscent of Dunedin guitar pop and smooth Pavement slacker tones, that winds wistful and nostalgic moods through shy jangly ripples of sparkling repetitive arpeggios, laced with vibrant scratchy riffs, over, a ruffled and clattery rousing rhythm section, whilst drawling high-angst vocals, wallowing in hard times, let go of relentless flows of regret and shame. It may be bent to predictable hooks, but the appeal and freshness are assured.

  • Melbourne, Australia lo-fi /bedroom /jangle /indie pop singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (FKA Candy), Calum Newton AKA Candy Moore “Laugh At Nothing” from the LP “Anything, Always”

New single from Melbourne, this time definitely filled with resonant jangle tones and apparently more uplifting, that swirl over vibrant, sparkling yet claustrophobic streams of urgent drum beats, warm lithe and resonant bassline throbs, twinkling obsessive guitar melodies and shivering glows, to surround lively nervous sad vocals and anxious echoes, longing to help another, with endless dreams of happiness. Once again an endearing and shimmering pop tune from Calum Newton as he has consistently accustomed us to over the years.

  • Klang Valley, Malaysia Shoegaze /Nugaze band The World Ends With You “Lorelai” debut single

Newcomer Shoegaze outfit from Malaysia with their first compelling and lyrically heart-rending effort that billows and startles, stirred by unbearable suffering, between squealing, ringing swells of buzzing guitar distortion, high-pitched excruciating frequencies and contemplative whispery undertows, over ephemeral, detached vocals begging not to be abandoned, whilst fading desperately beneath the rackety tumultuous doom.
