PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Somerville, Massachusetts ethereal dream pop /shoegaze band The Shallows “Dust and Sun” single

New single for the Boston area 4-piece where, as expected, Dream-Pop and Shoegaze organically harmonize on a glimmering blanket of ethereal sounds and ecstatic voices. Punctuated by dynamic drum beats and humming bass pulses, richly reverberated, shimmery airy guitar layers, along with liquid synth textures, build a radiant floating aura on which glide and shiver captivating vulnerable female vocals, needing comfort in a sleepy world of illusions.

  • San Francisco lo-fi indie /dream-fog pop artist (former drummer of April Magazine and current member of Flowertown and Sad Eyed Beatniks) Michael Ramos aka Tony Jay “The Darkest Corner” from the upcoming album “Knife Is But A Dream” co-released by Galaxy Train (Japan), Paisley Shirt Records, and Slumberland Records.

Early poignant preview from the upcoming homespun album from Bay Area cat lover cult ‘fog pop’ musician is “The Darkest Corner”, where Tony Jay seeks refuge after the world of lies has had its way with him, stirs its droning hazy way, with intimacy and grace, through obsessive, scraping skeletal guitar strums and distant, subtly discordant, tape hissing distorted resonances, to encircle dreamy introspective vocals, supported by light high haloes, weaving with vulnerable crisp arpeggios of heartache and pain.

  • Irish six piece Post-Shoegaze band from Dublin, Sun Mahshene “Pale Azure” third and final single from the debut album “A Place We’ve Never Been”

Sweeping, forceful and uplifting, “Pale Azure” is an intense shoegaze song about having the courage to leave it all behind in order to find meaning, where atmospheric quivering glimmers head off a stirring introspective journey “into the sunset under a pale blue sky”, driven by steady tight drum beats and sinuous warm basslines, swarming with sparkling vibrant guitar distortion, invigorating fuzzed-out showers, and rousing freeing unpassionate licks, to cocoon and raise emotional and introspective melancholic vocals, soaring into powerful layered harmonies of freedom and joy.
