Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – JULY #28-23
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Sydney-based shoegaze /dream pop musician and songwriter Pete Bridle (aka Lake Region and guitarist of Trillion), aka Lone Seagull “It’s Nice to Know” debut single
New alias, Lone Seagull, for Sydney‘s musician, after an overall excellent yet underestimated LP as Lake Region, whose distinctive, equally slightly discordant and hazily melodic, introspective shoegaze sound seems to acquire subtle tones of strained grungy tension weaved by relentless angsty rippling guitar riffs, to carve abrasive ringing swelling edges through humming bass lines and skipping drum beats, whilst reflective layered vocals release gentle aching breaths of longing and love.
- Minneapolis, Minnesota dream pop /shoegaze band, fadedinmemories “Supernova” (Single)
Minneapolis‘ atmospheric shoegazers deliver a stirring and emotional slow-burning overflow of comfort and support, instilled by radiant flickering guitar echoes wax and wane, swelling with taut, searing distorted intensity along with stumbling drum beats and warm resonant pulsing basslines, to overwhelm euphorically impassioned soaring vocals with bursting passions of empathetic love.
- Cologne, Germany dream pop /shoegaze band Hyperlilly “Realm of ok” single.
Cologne based foursome deftly blends smooth introverted dream pop and breezy, hazy shoegaze reverb with contemplative emotive vocals in their new single, “Realm of ok”, to weave sad swaying flows of mellow fuzzed-out droning guitar riffs, laced with restrained pain-fueled distorted weeping leads over lost, aching melancholic vocals, longing in hopelessness and isolation at the hands of a broken, betrayed relationship.
