Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – JULY #27-23

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Brisbane, AU ambient /shoegaze /dream pop solo project of D. Pearce, aka KIGO “Like amber” from the single “Like amber/Keep dreaming”

Australian Ambient Shoegaze composer Kigo returns, bringing back bitter-sweet memories of The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records and the sorely missed Chris T.,  with a more crystalline, lightened re-elaboration of an early 2015 atmospheric single. Calm, immersive and wistful flows of glistening radiant guitar ripples, lilted by light percussions, glide and high surge in subtle distortion, over haunting, barely audible, reverberated celestial vocals, drifting in an agony and ecstasy of disconnected moods.

  • Nashville, TN based, Springfield, OH-bred surf /dream /indie pop musician and composer, Jack Landess “Hourglass” from the 2-track single “Hourglass / Honey Boy”

With freshness and panache, on the same style of Beach Fossils and Real Estate’s shiny, languid, jangly gleams and crystalline sun-kissed surf riffs, “Hourglass” is a bright heady drown-out immersion that sparks hypnotic, twinkling 6-string obsessions, bouncy drums, and sinuously throbbing bass lines, to enshroud drowsy ecstatic vocals in swaying introspective emotions, whilst stirring the soul of a lost desert wanderer with a beautiful forward momentum of hope and dreams.

  • Michigan-based twee /C86 /indie-pop solo project of London-native Sean Turner AKA The Photocopies “Straight F’s” from “Untogether” EP

Yet another new EP for the prolific English expat guitar pop composer with his usual heady blend of bubbling energy and endearing melodic flair, rife with buzzing fuzz and subtly shimmering jangle, that pulses with vibrant nostalgia over a brisk swaying rhythm section, emotive swirling keyboard washes along with a whirring flurry of sizzling guitar textures, to surround soft angsty vocal drama with feverish regret and longing for a simpler time.
