PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Gdansk, Poland-based shoegaze /dream pop 4-piece RED RED SUN “Paper Swan” 2nd single from the forthcoming debut album “Just For a Goodbye” [Noon Records]
Polish quartet explores lush, reflective, and immersive Shoegaze and Dream Pop alchemies, built on heavily textured, emotionally drenched atmospheres and haunted celestial introspection. The second single sways and shimmers over echoing gated drum beats and resonant, penetrating guitars, slightly rippled with distortion, painfully reverberating around beautifully rich, emotional female vocals with a harsh edge, bringing forth a deep sense of heartache about needing to dream and feel something during hard times.
- Oakland, CA ambient /alt-rock /dreampop /shoegaze 5-piece Ringlet “December” single
Moody, floaty, atmospheric third single from up-and-coming California collective weighted with early dark memories that ended with abandonment, builds into trembly crystalline layers of shimmering wistful guitar melodies awash with reverb, bursting forth into wailing high distorted soars, that constantly shift and change tone from splashing hissing shrieks to fuzzed-out abrasive swells in sync with dreamy, sorrowful vocals, anxiously suffering in deep regret.
- London-based shoegaze /psychedelic rock band Ghost Patterns “Idle” 2nd single from the forthcoming new album “Mirror Image”
Second single in a row for the British group that deftly balances and merges thick, emotionally ridden doses of psychedelia and shoegaze with mesmerizing results. A slow-burning rumination propelled by mid-tempo shuffling drum beats that build off dense, murky droning guitar textures, carved with squealing, hallucinatory spirals layered with ghostly keyboards, around vexed, wistful male vocals, brooding and radiating with distant screaming echoes, through a heavy swarming haze of doubt and regret.
