Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – MAY #22-22
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Australian indie rock /shoegaze 3-piece band from Brisbane, Sacred Blue “Falling” from the new EP “Autumn”
Brisbane‘s Sacred Blue returns immersive emotional-ridden psychedelic slow-burner “Falling”, recalling the murky yet sparkling lysergic introspection of Kendra Smith-David Roback’s Opal, to explore winding spectral apocalyptic realms stirred by ominous bleak pinpoint bass pulses and scattered drum beats, scratched by persistent vibrant abrasive distorted guitar riffs rumbling and brooding in obsessive pain, amid stark, dire, heart-rending leads, to sharpen the tragic beauty of hopeless female vocals into a desperate forlorn swell of shattered dreams, guiding her way to the edge of boundless obsession.
- Portland, OR bedroom /ethereal /dream pop /fuzzy /shoegaze solo project Animal Ghosts “Stellar” from the upcoming vinyl 12″ album “Wallow”
Portland‘s one-man band introduces the upcoming full-length album in the finest way, chiselling an ever more intoxicating and refined dizzy alchemy of ecstatic bittersweet melodies along with Madchester-like syncopated pace, as irresistibly immediate as it is introspective and enveloping, that coalesce organically with swelling basslines and a shimmering lush swarm of distorted loud guitar riffs, swathed in dazzling flashing loops, over wobbly rolling off-beat rhythmic patterns, to float with swirls of high-pitched disorienting emotional intensity around hypnotic soft breathy vocals oozing angsty longings into a fuzzy sway of lost dreams.
- Stockholm, Sweden indie /noise rock 4-piece (former members of Dead Vibrations, Twin Pigs, Tiger Bell, Mary’s Kids and Boris and The Jeltsins), DULL “This Is Going South” from the debut single “This Is Going South / Dive Deep Down” on Startracks
Hailing from well-known stalwart bands from the Swedish capital’s underground music scene, the new noise-rock 4-piece band combine tense and slightly dissonant ‘sonic’ guitar riffs rife with Sonic Youth vibes, urgent energetic rhythms, and a good dose of hallucinating frenzy and punk anger to augment the evocative impact. The lead track, “This Is Going South”, ignites a searing whirlwind of tight pummeling rhythms propelling loud distorted, disgruntled guitar riffs laced with winding droning guitar strains that writhe and jerk, shredding angst and aggression through tumultuous sways of caustic, moody female rants, screaming and longing for better days amidst the total annihilation of love.
