PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Canadian ambient /dream pop /shoegaze project of James Callan, aka Prepare My Glider “Embrace the Tragedy feat. gouachepaint” single
The Canadian atmospheric shoegazer teams again with the ethereal vocalizations and introspective lyrics by gouachepaint, to take the listener on a dive into the atemporal cocooning washes of beautiful sound, inspired by 1992’s Drop Nineteens, “Embrace the Tragedy” fluidly flows with enlivened, stirring, foamy sheets of guitar reverbs, rippled with shimmering refractions, on which feather light celestial vocals waver before and after thoughtful spoken words confess intimate hopes and fears.
- Nashville 3-piece indie rock /dream pop band led by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jill Townsend, aka Fetching Pails “Ruiner” single [yk Records]
A surreal and moody organic/synthetic instrumental concoction about a foolish, messy, melancholic spirit who wrecks love, laces shifting percussions and bouncy, sonorous bass chugs, with echoing sparkling guitar melodies and glossy synth stabs, to slowly build-up and erupt into a full-body, loud expressive cascade together into a whole, with vibrant and whimsical soaring emotional vocals, transcending through to a warm and hopeful finale.
- Lodi, Italy slowcore /shoegaze /dream-pop duo Six Impossible Things “Eight and a Half” single [Dear Gear Records]
Same label as Swayglow, we featured last week, less dark and nocturnal, equally stirring yet hazier and ethereal, the new track from North of Italy dreamy shoegaze duo evokes perpetually sad feelings about how fast life moves, through insistent stabbing gasps drenched in somber melancholic reverb, to shapeshift with a steady heart pulse of heavy shuffling percussions, pain-filled emotive piano keys and swollen fuzzed-out guitar distortion, whilst wistful whispery female vocals, haloed by baritone breaths, fade away into a climatic blast of shimmery tumultuous tension.
