Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – MAY #20-23

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Birmingham UK post-punk /indie rock /dream pop /shoegaze singer-songwriter Oliver Beardmore “Fade” title track of the forthcoming album

Even if the cover seems to remain invariably the same, the songwriting of the young English artist Oliver Beardmore is increasingly getting richer and more intriguing with a sparkling and electrifying guitar-laden concoct of vibrant fuzzed-out riffs, shimmery rippling jangly chords, and soaring chilly chimes, charged by murmuring throbbing basslines and lively drum beats, to stir angsty vocal longing with swaying moods of dread and hope.

  • Peruvian dream pop /shoegaze 5-piece band Solenoide “Cartarescu” single from the first EP “Casa de Islandia” via Catenaria Discos

The debut EP by the Peruvian Dream-Pop /Shoegaze collective Solenoide float amid ethereal introspections, soaring distortions and shimmering reverberations along with a distinctive literature-enhanced lyrical twist. Likewise their name, seemingly inspired by Romanian novelist Mircea Cărtărescu, the lead single and the most shoegazing of the lot, cradles a dreamy dual male-female vocal interplay within a surreal atmosphere of low humming bass lines, syncopated drum beats, stirring glistening melancholic guitar melodies and churning riffs to arouse feelings of intimacy, warmth, and turmoil.

  • Maine indie pop /twee fuzz /shoegaze /dream pop outfit Field Studies “The Rougarou (demo)” from the demo collection EP “tryouts”

In their first 6-track Demo EP Maine‘s Indie-Pop newcomers rightly put lots of “tags” on their muffled and hazy, yet shimmery guitar-driven sound palette of mostly teasing and tasty quality, amidst effect-filled jangly guitar work, compelling spectral organ washes, and bewitching haunted vocal introspections. My favorite, along with the melancholic lullaby “Strange House”, is the most dynamic, yet relentlessly introspective of the lot, infused with breezy 60s folksy and nostalgic vibes to ignite shiny guitar riffs, wistful glistening twangs and glowing keyboard wafts, underpinned by chugging bass lines and trotting drum beats, into transformative sways around soft yet high piercing cries and emotional angst, to deliver folklorish poetry about the “Rougarou.” (werewolf). Absolutely a band to note down.
