Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – MAY #19-23
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Stockholm, Sweden dream pop /indie pop duo Magnus Haderborg (The Vapour Veils) and Linus Giertta (Blanka, The Grand Opening), The Jilted “Guilty Pleasures” debut single
Topped by the easily recognizable both anthemic and melodramatic Magnus Haderborg‘s commanding vocal delivery, the soul-stirring debut single by the Swedish duo weaves sharp wistful piano key melodies and warm orchestral swathes, swarmed with anxiety and pain through a toxic tunnel of rapid skipping drum beats and humming pulsing basslines, whilst powerful distraught vocals dwell in the tragic back and forth of a broken romance.
- Lancaster, Pennsylvania post-rock /shoegaze /indie rock solo project Joyful Forfeit “I’ll Come Back To You” the third single from the upcoming debut “Everything Came To Light” EP
The Indie Guitar Pop, with a dash of Shoegaze and Post-Rock, from the Pennsylvania-based one-man band, through a smooth string of three singles in a row, reveals a confident flow of vibrant, introspective and heartfelt melodic songwriting prowess that exudes emotions, pathos and subtle disenchantment. The latest “I’ll Come Back To You” rouses emotive-ridden atmospheric vibes from obsessive winding and ringing guitar melodies, underpinned by heavily stomping drum beats and sonorous bass lines, wandering with vibrato piercing resonance over angsty, agonized vocal melancholy, rising and falling in desperate swells of bitter romance.
- Japanese shoegaze /dream pop /jangle /indie pop band based in Nagoya, Belinda May – “Our Summer Days” from Belinda May’s 7″ vinyl single “Our Summer Days / Dreams” via Fastcut Records
Long-anticipated second 7″ single by Nagoya-based band Belinda May, a name possibly inspired by Ennio Morricone’s late 60s Bossanova-tinged theme, furrows familiar jangly and dreamy guitar pop-laden summery skies with carefree panache and bittersweet melodic flair, swaying through romantic “Our Summer Days” that arouses whimsical sparkling guitar melodies, enlivened by peppy drum beats and sinuous warm bass lines, into a vibrant and magical shimmering ecstatic flow, rippled by wistful echoing chimes around dual vocals of gentle genuine joy, sharing eternal longings for love.
