Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – APRIL 2024 – #16-24

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Clare, Australia lo-fi /bedroom pop /indie /dream pop band (formerly Foulness Island), Bedroom Holiday “Drive” single

Versatile Australian musician and composer, under his Bedroom Holiday alias, entrances us, as is usual, into his lilting throwback jangly dreampop world from which we would like never to depart, with a song about losing a loved one that wavers on mid-tempo syncopated drum beats layered by slightly sharp yet beguiling intricate drifts of wistful and nostalgic sparkling guitar melodies, to ‘Drive’ reflective anxious vocals through grief, safely home.

  • Limestone Coast, South Australia indie rock /shoegaze /dreampop brainchild of Guitarist, Songwriter, and Producer Dave Thomas, aka Hey Calamity “Heading High” single

Surfing between fuzzed-out Shoegaze textures and lush DreamPop contemplations, as in this case, the Aussie musician seamlessly carries us to wide natural prismatic boundless spaces, wandering through immersive corroborating waves that rise intensely and then quickly ebb away, amid leaving a warming sense of nostalgia and heartfelt emotions. Likewise emotive, and introspective the new song “Heading High” winds fluid ghostly synth washes with a rippling sea of shimmering guitar reflections, and vibrant twinkling weeping guitar melodies, to echo aching deep vocals, reflecting on lost love and friendships through a lens of alienation.

  • Salzburg, Austria indie /shoegaze /dreampop trio Backwards Charm “Bullet” feat. Julia Sabra (of Postcards) single

Enriched by the bewitching Sandovalesque velvety vocal tones of Julia Sabra, the new single from the band hailing from ‘the city of Mozart’, elicits an urgent rush of sparkling forsaken guitar melodies that obsessively ripple and chime through a droning floor of rapid humming pulsing bass lines and bouncy drum beats, while whispery haunted spoken words, surge with softly anxious  falling emotions, seeking comfort from pain in the form of a ‘Bullet.’
