PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Sydney, Australia electronic /shoegaze /kraut /post-punk /dream pop /art-rock duo Fabels “Waiting” from forthcoming 3rd album ‘Minds’.
Magnetic and intoxicating preview from the third LP through shimmering circular strummed guitar melodies that wind hazy spectral echoes, uncoiling sinuously through a deeply mesmeric droning sea of helpless despair, to surge in the aching searing intensity of tremolo reverberations atop alluringly bleak, organic female vocals, shrouded in hypnotic male back-ups, seeking comfort and relief from the eternally “waiting” auras of secretive fear. - Italian indie /noise-rock /shoegaze /synthpop 4-piece from Rimini, COSMETIC – ”La Luce Accesa” new single on To Lose La Track
We knew the longstanding well-respected Italian noisemakers Cosmetic for a rather abrasive guitar-driven band, but the quartet come back with the new single ”La Luce Accesa” (The Light On), almost as a stripped-down version of an Italians Do It Better’s band, less glossy and glamorous, yet equally nocturnal and hypnotic, gently enshrouded with bittersweet, and bright swathes of synth, underpinned by swishing mechanical beats, as soothing airy dual male/female emotional Italian croons layer romance and nostalgia into the hopeless melancholy of a broken-hearted blues. Hardly the four will give up the noisy racket of their guitars, but given the rather convincing experiment, it would be a pity if it was just an impromptu foray.

Far less experienced than Cosmetic and consequently brimming with youthful enthusiasm, Verona‘s 4-piece You,Nothing don’t give up wiry guitars, blending shoegaze distortion with dynamic punk urgency, and even an edgy post-rock-tinged bridge, in a fizzing, frenzy, and suffocating new third single, to build searing nervous tension around angsty breathless female vocals exhaling relentless panic to “Take me away from here”.
