PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Hove, UK-based electro-acoustic /indie-pop duo of Simon and Wendy Pickles (of the Popguns), The Perfect English Weather – “London-By-The-Sea” second single from the forthcoming album “Just Beyond The Lights” [Matinée Recordings / EarthPercent]

Mostly known for being the creative core of the ‘irrepressible’ indie guitar band The Popguns since 1986, the pair also rejoice through their one decade old side endeavour The Perfect English Weather, in enriching their refined art of songwriting into airy, sun-kissed and captivating electro-acoustic watercolors, suffused with the habitual looseness and playfulness of an everlasting melodic sensibility. The new single lilts gently on soft, groovy percussions and warm, sinuous bass pulses below a shimmery tapestry of airy guitar strums, decorated by sweet, fluid keyboard brushes, while nostalgic, wistful, yet elated vocals remember a chance meeting with Morrissey in 1984 through cherished heartfelt emotion.

  • Houston, TX ethereal /dream pop /indie rock  singer-songwriter, Love Spells “How?” single from the upcoming EP “The Love I Showed You Was Yours To Keep”

After last March’s delicious soul-stirring ethereal electro-acoustic ballad, the talented Texas artist returns with the intimately romantic and deeply soulful “How?” to sway on a groovy and vibrant bed of syncopated drum patterns, warm, humming bass throbs, and glaring, penetrating surreal synths, that shiver and jolt in a mesmerizing interplay with sad/anxious high-pitched vocals of deeply emotional breathy dreaminess, delivering personal lyrics about the realities of love.

  • Ipoh, Malaysia indie rock /shoegaze /noise pop band Fieldville “Ranch” single

A Jesus and Mary Chain-inflected slice of abrasive and droning yet contemplative and melodic shoegaze/noise pop sound from the South East Asia outfit, shuffles its way through rich feedback-laden atmospheric guitar textures, carved by achingly ringing, screechy swells, to slowly drown dreamy, elated vocals, letting go of heartache, amid celestial comfort, with truth and love.
