Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – April #15-21

PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Melbourne, Australia alt /electronic /shoegaze solo project Blankxeros “Misanthropes” new single

Deftly fully self-produced DIY solo project from Melbourne, Blankxeros, blends 90’s noise rock and shoegaze with trap flourishes and industrial rhythmic edge, in the atmospheric yet energetic, reminiscent of Curve, new single “Misanthropes” introduced by a background conversation stirring intrigue under whining agonized guitar riffs and lashing scattered off-tempo beats, swaying between a slow anxious pace and reverb-dusted abrasive distortion, around mesmeric distressed female vocals harsh, disconnected cries of injustice and fear.

  • Fife, Scotland indie /shoegaze 4-piece SILVERMASH “Realizer” new single

East Scotland quartet blends hoarse, grungy tones and ringing seething streams of reverb along with a palpable deep sense of unease and wistfulness. Nostalgic melancholic husky male vocals, drowning in sparkling yet abrasive sweeping layers of guitar distortion, to wander anxiously, amidst an emotional strummed interlude, laced with sorrowful forlorn melodies drifting wearily into a hopeless destiny of fear.

  • Aberdeen, Scotland’s jangle power-pop solo project of founding member and one-fifth of The Vapour Trails, Kevin Robertson “Love’s Blue Yonder” (Big Stir Records Single Club series No. 125) from the upcoming LP “Sundown’s End”, out May 28 on Futureman/Subjangle.

Few miles between Fife to Aberdeen, but switch the nuances of melancholy and the timbres of the guitar sound, from the noisy reverberations of Silvermesh, as it is easy to understand, the twinkle-dusted Byrds- ian jangle chords infuse the solo project of The Vapor Trails frontman Kevin Robertson, right without the psych flair of his combo.
It’s an endearing catchy and refreshingly familiar tune, wandering through nostalgic melodies that wind twinkling guitar strings with steady skipping beats, shimmering around airy seductive male vocals to build groovy, upbeat feelings about returning home after a long absence. Part of Big Stir Records Single Club, only an appetizer from the full-length soon on Futureman/Subjangle.
