Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – MARCH 2024 – #12-24
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- German Dream Pop /Shoegaze duo from Heidelberg, The Virginia Planes “The Siren Call” (TVP’s interpretation of Belgian hardcore band Powerstroke‘s track)
Sparse yet painstakingly crafted which, the duo’s singles dropped so far, who, also in this rendition, once again deftly combine seamlessly invigorating instrumental energy, floating with modern flair on the edge of 80s and 90s sound suggestions, with a harmonious vocal spell. “The Siren Call” arouses an intoxicating flowing weave of obsessive vibrant ringing guitar melodies with raising and rippling distorted riffs, poignantly vibrating around beautifully mesmerising vocals, drawing another to a blissful demise with poisonous intentions
- Hamburg, Germany shoegaze trio The First Eloi “Hide & Seek” single
We move from the South-West to the far Hanseatic North of Germany with a more classic, equally enticing, early 90s Shoegaze sound, layering stormy emotional swells of fuzzy abrasive guitar riffs, ringing rippling strains, and brief shifts into calm echoing twinkling melodies, with an underlying of stumbling drum beats and pulsing bass lines, around soft childlike vocals, hiding in fear and secrets, awash in dire angsty distortions.
- UK four-piece C86 /jangle /indie pop band The Artisans “Let’s Go Out” single from the upcoming sophomore album “When Saturday Comes” on Subjangle
“Let’s Go Out” vibrates with the same soulful and feisty melodic freshness of Housemartin’s heydays, bouncing through a nostalgic dynamic concoction of perky drum beats, lithe warm pulsing bass lines, jangly guitar chords, and stirring emotive brass blows to encompass upbeat atmospheric vocals, with luxury and glamour, on another person’s dime.
