PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Seattle/Tacoma, WA Indie /Power Pop /Rock’n’Roll 4-piece The Rallies “Comes And Goes” (single)

The Pacific Northwest combo has a refined knack for writing insanely and deliciously infectious retro Power Pop tunes, seamlessly not missing a beat. Bouncy drums, snaking rubbery bass pulses, and jangling wistful guitar arpeggios, led by warm heartfelt vocals of gloom and elation, layer with uplifting nostalgic ‘doo-wop’ backups, to explore life’s highs and lows with intoxicating harmonies.

  • Los Angeles-based noise rock /shoegaze /dream-pop band Supergloom “sideFX” single

We met the Los Angeles based noisy/dreamy Shoegaze power trio through an interview on the occasion of Seattle‘s Tremolo Fest at the end of last year, which hinted at a guitar-laced sound rich in nuance, as shown by the new single that alternates thick blaring riffs of droning and ringing, plaintive distortion with softer, pensive shimmering strums, to feed ceaselessly heartfelt emotional waves engulfed by sad high angst, wistful vocals lost in disconnection.

  • San Antonio, TX indie rock /dream pop /shoegaze project of Joshua Hatten (aka Father Mulligan) featuring Rebecca Vines, Crux of Faith “Lonely Girl” from the “A New Day” EP

Endearing new EP from the Texan Shoegaze project delves into its gentler, reflective and more ecstatic side adjacent to dream pop, with only the third and final, probably less effective, track featuring gauzy sheets of distortion. Slightly rippled with jangly ethereal tones ala The Sundays and crispy percussions the opening title track, while “Lonely Girl” unfurls shimmering and enveloping electro-acoustic guitar trails filled with breezy melancholy, while sad crystal clear vocal introspections sway into distorted heartbroken cries, to explore the confusing emotions of lost love.
